Who we are

Teanum was born in 2000 in San Paolo di Civitate, in the province of Foggia. The project was to revalue a historic winery from the 1970s, dedicated solely to the production of bulk wine. Guided by the ambition to make our products recognizable, we decided to invest in bottling and in the purchase of a second winery, located in the Predicatella district of San Severo.
The goal was to develop a characterizing brand identity, in which the link with the history of our territory was evident both in the logo and through the story of our products.
For this reason, the name Teanum is inspired by Teanum Apulum, the Roman municipium that succeeded the ancient Apulian city of Tiati, on whose remains today stands San Paolo di Civitate. Even Tiati relives in the brand identity! The ancient coins shown on our finest labels – Gran Tiati, Metodo Classico and Gold Vintage DOP Riserva, represent a tribute to the Tiati coin mint. Furthermore, the logo, with its elegant graceful characters and the pila, a particular type of javelin made up of a stick and a small point, is a clear reference to the Romanesque style.
Today Teanum wines are present in most of the most important markets in the sector, with an annual production of 1.5 million bottles.
Our two wineries are located on a slightly hilly area, first called Daunia and then Capitanata: the so-called “head” of Puglia. Set between Molise, Campania and Basilicata, this land is unique in its kind because it is characterized by two coastal lakes (Lesina and Varano), a promontory (the Gargano), a mountain massif (the Monti Dauni) and a large flat area (the Tavoliere delle Puglie).
In 1968 San Severo was the first Apulian city to obtain the DOP designation. The clayey or clayey-silty territories that characterize the San Severo PDO derive from the dissolution of the rocks emerging from the sea, are rich in potassium and relatively poor in organic matter. The production altitude varies between 90 and 250 meters high, while the climate is warm, with rainfall in the autumn and winter.
This particular combination of soil and climatic conditions, combined with the wise use of modern oenological practices, allows to obtain wines of high quality.
